Chanoyu (Tea Implements) Exhibit


It was like a gift – an exhibition of Japanese tea implements (cups, bowls, etc.) created by local artisans, beautiful crafts in and of themselves. And it was free, just upstairs on the mezzanine of the Honolulu Museum of Art School at the corner of Beretania and Victoria Streets, catty-corner from the Honolulu Museum of Art itself.
A gift is always a surprise and this Chanoyu presentation was no different. I’d gone to there to check out the 45th annual Hawaii Craftsmen exhibition, which in itself was a pleasure to attend. Oh my, and then I got to see some beautiful ceramic work as well? Outstanding.
I got there just in time as well … the little show closes on Sept. 16 (so if you want to check it out, you’d better hurry). Make it a “two-fer” – the Chanoyu exhibit and the Craftsmen Show, same time, same place.
