The Endoscopy Institute of Hawaii

On the Saturday when I was to depart on my Las Vegas vacation, the family gathered to attend a special event  the blessing of the Endoscopy Institute of Hawaii. It was a very special occasion because my brother-in-law, Dr. Warren Ono, is its president and one of the principals whose dream is being realized with the clinic's opening.
Dr. Ono and his partners foresaw a need for a state-of-the-art facility to perform screening, diagnostics and therapeutic endoscopies of all kinds. Y'know, colonoscopy, laparoscopy, esophagogastroduodenoscopy (don't you just love that word?), stuff like that. That's where they use an endoscope to look into your body for problems that used to be impossible to detect.

The Rev. (Kahu) Bill Kaina of Manoa Valley Church delivered the blessing, parted of the maile lei (symbolizing the cutting of an umbilical cord), and graced the rooms and participants with sprinkles of water that had been blessed at his church.
I’ve participated in many such blessing before, particularly during my service on the executive committee of the 50th State Fair, and more than once have I been “blessed” by the water. It’s always an auspicious occasion, and this one was no different. Truly spiritual, that’s what it was.
Located on the second floor of 1401 S. Beretania St. in the Hale Pawa’a Buidling where the Meadow Gold plant used to be at the corner of Beretania and Keeaumoku Streets, there’s lots of parking available with entrances from Beretania and Young Streets.
That’s where I’m going the next time I need a colonoscopy done. No ifs, ands, or “butts” about it.
